故이태석 신부 제자, 남수단 첫 신경과 전문의에
아프리카 남수단 톤즈에서 의료와 교육 봉사를 하다 세상을 떠난 고 이태석 신부의 제자가 16년 만에 남수단 최초의 신경과 전문의가 됐다. 18일 이태석재단에 따르면 남수단 출신의 조지프 볼 씨(36)가 최근 에티오피아 아디스아바바대 교육병원인 블랙 라이언 병원에서 레지던트 과정을 마치고 신경과 전문의 자격을 취득했다. 조지프는 이 신부의 이야기를 다룬 영화 ‘울지마 톤즈’(2010년)에서 이 신부를 만나 의사의 꿈을 갖게 된 학생으로 등장했다. 조지프가 꿈을 이룬 과정에는 국경을 넘어선 한국의 도움이 있었다. 조지프는 이태석재단의 ‘권성현 장학생’으로 선발돼 학업과 전문의 수련 과정을 마칠 수 있었다. 서울대 의대에 합격했지만 백혈병으로 세상을 떠난 고 권성현 군의 부모는 “아들의 못다 이룬 꿈을 잇고 싶다”며 재단에 6년 치 학비를 기부했다. 조지프는 권 군의 부모에게 “환자 한 사람 한 사람에게 두 분께 받은 사랑과 도움을 돌려드리겠다”고 전했다. 이번 사례는 재단이 추

사랑의열매, 호우 피해 성금 모금
18일 사랑의열매 사회복지공동모금회는 최근 경남 거제와 통영 등 남부 지역에 내린 집중 호우로 피해를 본 주민과 지역을 지원하기 위해 다음 달 15일까지 특별모금을 진행한다고 밝혔다. 사랑의열매는 “이번 호우로 현재까지 1명이 숨지고 4명이 다쳤으며, 주택과 도로 침수, 수목 전도 등 2574건의 피해가 신고됐다”고 특별모금 배경을 밝혔다. 문의는 사랑의열매 나눔콜센터.
“집엔 갈수 있을지…” 산사태 덮친 아파트 가스냄새에 불안
