이상하게 선선했던 6월, 북극 ‘찬바람 방패’가 폭염 막았다

올해 6월은 기록적인 더위를 보였던 최근 2년과 달리 상대적으로 선선했다. 북극권에서 발달한 ‘블로킹(대기 정체)’ 영향으로 찬 공기가 한반도에 반복적으로 유입되면서 폭염과 열대야가 줄고 장마도 늦어졌다는 분석이 나온다. 최근 기상청이 발표한 ‘2026년 6월 기후특성’ 자료에 따르면 지난달 전국 평균기온은 22.2도로 평년(21.4도)보다 0.8도 높았다. 다만 역대 가장 더웠던 지난해와 2024년보다는 각각 0.5, 0.7도 낮아 전국 기상 관측 이래 6월 기준으로 일곱 번째로 높은 수준이었다. 지난달 초중순에는 고온다습한 공기가 유입되며 기온이 올랐지만 이후 북쪽에서 찬 공기가 반복적으로 내려오면서 기온이 하락했다. 이에 따라 전국 평균 폭염일수는 0.6일로 평년 수준에 머물렀고 열대야는 한 차례도 발생하지 않았다. 특히 서울은 2022년 이후 매년 6월 열대야가 나타났지만 올해는 관측되지 않았다. 기상청은 6월 중순까지 이어지던 더위가 하순 들어 주춤한 원인으로 북극 주
