새벽 인천 공장 큰불, 17개 공장 27개동 소실…대응 2단계→1단계
인천의 한 공장에서 발생한 큰불이 인근 17개 공장으로 번지면서 소방 당국이 경보령을 발령하고 진화 작업에 나섰다.16일 인천소방본부에 따르면 이날 오전 1시 49분쯤 인천 서구 원창동 한 A 공장에서 화재가 발생했다.이 불로 현재까지 확인된 인명피해는 없는 것으로 파악됐다.다만 화재가 인근 공장으로 확산하면서 A 공장을 포함해 모두 17개 공장, 27개 동이 소실된 것으로 파악됐다.소방 당국은 화재 발생 약 2시간 10분 만에 인접 소방서 5∼6곳의 장비와 인력을 동원하는 ‘대응 2단계’를 발령해 진화 작업을 벌였다.이후 오전 6시 5분부터는 관할 소방서의 인력과 장비를 모두 투입하는 ‘대응 1단계’로 하향 조정한 상태다.현재 소방 인력 285명과 장비 102대가 투입돼 화재를 진압하고 있다.소방 관계자는 “현재 인명 피해 검색과 함께 화재 진압 작업을 진행하고 있다”며 “최초 신고는 공장 경비업체에서 접수했다”고 말했다.(인천=뉴스1)

Readers respond to an report on experiments that have shown a left-turn bias among humans It is not quite true to say that no one knows why people prefer to turn left and walk anticlockwise (Report, 10 June). Research by the French professor of physiology Raphaël Dubois in the 19th century revealed the existence of a phenomenon in the natural world that he called the “antikinetic gyratory movement”, caused by the rotation of the Earth on its axis. During the 1900 Universal Exhibition in Paris, he observed a tendency among visitors to walk anticlockwise. In the years leading up to the first world war, he applied his theory to explain migration (of humans and animals) and war. 품절 상태인 ‘이 도자기’…알고보니 납 기준초과
국내에서 판매되던 자라홈(Zara Home)의 일부 도자기 제품이 식품의약품안전처 검사에서 중금속인 납 기준치를 초과해 수입 부적합 판정을 받았다. 해당 제품은 현재 공식 판매처에서도 품절 상태가 이어지고 있다.16일 식품의약품안전처 수입식품정보마루에 따르면 자라홈 테이블 액세서리 제품(품목번호 2232216305)에 대한 검사 결과 납이 3.1㎎/L 검출됐다.식약처 기준상 도자기제의 납 허용 기준은 제품 용도와 용량에 따라 차등 적용된다. 가열 조리용 도자기의 경우 0.㎎/L 이하를 충족해야 하며, 비가열용 제품은 용량별로 0.5~2.0㎎/L 이하 기준이 적용된다. 이번 제품은 기준치를 초과하면서 국내 반입이 제한됐다.식품과 직접 접촉하는 유리·도자기 제품은 사용 과정에서 중금속이 용출될 가능성이 있어 수입 전 별도의 안전성 검사를 거친다. 식약처는 제품에서 나올 수 있는 납 성분의 용출 여부를 확인하는 한편, 남아 있을 수 있는 중금속 잔류량도 정밀 분석 장비를 활용해 측정

This is a public health success story worth celebrating, because so many worse results were possible. We heard so much about what went wrong during Covid and the various systems that failed, so it’s good to recognise when things go right – even if you won’t hear about it in the evening news. There were 147 passengers and crew, and on 4 May seven cases of respiratory illness on board were identified as the Andes strain of hantavirus, which has been known to spread from human to human. This was already an extremely unlucky outcome – hantavirus is deadly, with death rates approaching 30% based on recent research, but most strains only spread from animals to humans.
