도로에서 타이어 없이 달리는 차량이 목격돼 황당함을 자아냈다.9일 자동차 전문 커뮤니티 보배드림에 따르면 최근 한 남성은 ‘타이어 없이 차량운행’이라는 제목의 게시물을 올렸다. 이 목격자는 지난달 22일 오후 직장 동료들과 함께 동부간선도로를 이동하던 중 타이어가 빠진 채 주행하는 차량을 발견했다고 전했다. 그는 “(해당 차량이) 휠로 이동하면서 굉음을 내고 가더라”며 “차가 막힐 때는 천천히 갔는데 차량 통행이 원활해지면서 속도가 나기 시작했다”고 설명했다.이어 “신고하면서 천천히 따라가는데 속도가 올라가길래 차선 이탈부터 속도 그리고 사고가 발생할 것 같아서 차량에 있던 경광봉 등으로 차량을 정차시키고 하위차선으로 천천히 유도했다”며 “경찰이 와서 인계했다”고 전했다. 이와 함께 공개한 사진에는 좌측 앞바퀴의 타이어가 빠진 채 휠만 드러난 차량의 모습이 담겼다. 목격자가 추정한 차량의 속도는 시속 약 50~60㎞으로 봤다.목격자는 “차량을 따라간 거리만 6~7㎞ 되는 것

친구 장례식장 방문을 두고 예비 신부와 갈등을 겪었다는 한 남성의 사연이 온라인에서 화제가 됐다.최근 직장인 익명 커뮤니티 블라인드에는 ‘결혼 앞두고 장례식장 가는 거 어떻게 생각하냐’는 제목의 글이 올라왔다.작성자 A씨는 “결혼을 4개월 앞두고 친한 친구가 세상을 떠났다”며 “나한테는 참 소중한 사람이라 장례식장에 다녀왔다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “안 그래도 슬프고 괴롭고 힘든 상황인데 어머니와 여자친구가 둘 다 난리”라며 “결국 두 사람과 모두 싸웠다”고 토로했다.A씨는 “토속신앙이든 샤머니즘이든 종교든 각자가 믿는 것은 존중한다”면서도 “그런 믿음을 타인에게 강요하지 않았으면 좋겠다. 내가 잘못한 것이냐”고 누리꾼들에게 의견을 물었다.사연을 접한 누리꾼들은 대부분 A씨의 행동에 공감하는 반응을 보였다.한 누리꾼은 “친한 친구가 세상을 떠났는데 장례식장에 가지 않는다는 게 더 이상하다”며 “그 일로 결혼 문제가 생긴다면 오히려 친구가 마지막으로 도와준 것”이라고 댓글을 남겼다

‘세계 환경의 날’은 단순한 기념일이 아니라 인류가 환경과의 관계를 되돌아보고 지속 가능한 미래를 모색하자는 국제사회의 약속이다. 1972년 스웨덴 스톡홀름에서 열린 유엔 인간환경회의는 산업화와 도시화로 인한 환경 파괴의 심각성을 세계가 처음 공동으로 인식한 계기였으며, 같은 해 유엔은 6월 5일을 ‘세계 환경의 날’로 지정했다. 오늘날 인류는 기후변화, 생물다양성 감소, 플라스틱 오염, 미세먼지 등 복합적인 환경 위기에 직면해 있다. 특히 기후변화는 폭염, 집중호우, 가뭄, 산불 등 각종 재난을 유발하며 인간의 삶과 경제, 안전을 위협하고 있다. 환경 문제의 원인을 단순히 화석연료 사용 증가에서만 찾을 수는 없다. 좀 더 근본적인 문제는 자연의 균형이 무너졌다는 데 있다. 환경 스트레스를 만들어내는 발생원과 이를 흡수, 조절하는 자연의 흡수원 사이 균형이 깨지면서 문제가 심화된 것이다. 남극의 빙하에서 채취한 얼음기둥 분석에 따르면 대기 중 이산화탄소와 메탄 농도는 수천 년 전

We are in dangerous territory as courts encourage jurors to discern untruth from body language. In fact, the words are far more revealing Imagine you are a juror on a murder trial. A married couple have been found shot dead. The defendant, a man known to them, denies the charge. You’ve heard the prosecution’s evidence and you’ve heard his testimony. But you and your fellow jurors are unsure if you should believe his protestations of innocence. At the hotel in the evening, another juror makes a novel suggestion: contact the spirits of the dead couple to find out if the defendant is lying. In agreement, you all sit around a crudely constructed Ouija board and call upon the spirits of the dead couple to ask: “Who killed you?” The board spells out the name of the defendant. The next day, you return a guilty verdict to the court. Sounds too absurd to be true? Well, in 1994 an English jury did consult a Ouija board (a retrial was ordered, and the defendant was found guilty again). But it is no more absurd than a jury being directed by the courts to use an assessment of body language to make a judgment. Judicial directions in Scotland advise jurors that they can “look at the content of witnesses’ evidence, [and] their body language in giving it”. Similarly, in England and Wales, jurors are instructed not to take so many notes during a trial that they are “unable to observe the manner/demeanour of the witnesses as they give their evidence”. It appears that the UK’s judicial system is no different from most of the population in assuming there is a clear association between body language or demeanour and deception – while being ignorant of the fact that looking at these to determine an individual’s honesty is not trustworthy.
